Safranbolu is one of the best-preserved Ottoman towns in Turkey. The Çarşı district is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with hundreds of original 17th and 18th century timber-frame mansions, hans, and a covered bazaar still largely intact and functioning. The town is named for its historical saffron cultivation. It receives weekend visitors from Ankara but international tourist numbers are low. Walking the Çarşı streets is like moving through a working museum of Ottoman urban planning.

UNESCO-listed Ottoman townscape of remarkable preservation — hundreds of original timber-frame mansions, hans, and bazaars still standing. Named for its saffron production.

Turkish domestic visitors on weekends. International visitors are rare. Very manageable.

4hrs from Ankara by bus or car. No direct rail. Worth the journey.

Remote by Turkish tourism standards. Limited English-language options. The appeal is the genuine Ottoman streetscape rather than any particular single sight.
